PANA

Maha Vishuva Sankranti /"Pana" sankranti is celebrated as the odia new year.On this particular day,a small pot filled with pana or water is hung on a basil (Tulsi) plant.There is a hole at the bottom of this pot which allows the water to fall from the pot,representing rain.The flour of horse gram chhatua, along with banana and curd,is consumed by the people of Odisha after offering it to the Tulsi plant."PANA" is a special recipe mainly prepared with different types of fruits,chhatua,curd,paneer,milk,jaggery etc.This is my mom's recipe.I never thought that I could make "Pana" in USA.But thanx to mom,today she gave me this recipe and da result all you see...............






INGREDIENTS FOR INSTANT SATTU :-

Wheat flour(aata)-1 cup(or you can also use gram flour[besan])
Ghee-1 tbsp


METHOD FOR SATTU:-

1-In a pan heat 1 tbsp of ghee,then add wheat flour(aata) or gram flour(besan) and fry on low flame till brown in color.


INGREDIENTS:-

Sattu(Chhatua powder)-1 cup(I used instant sattu using ghee and aata)
Homemade paneer-1/2 cup
Yogurt-1/2 cup
Jaggery-1/2 cup
Grated coconut-1/2 cup
Banana-2 (peeled and cut into tiny pieces)
Apple-1 (peeled and cut into tiny pieces)
Mango-1/4 (cup peeled and cut into tiny pieces)
Strawberry-2-3(cut into tiny pieces) [optional]
Grapes-8-10(optional)
Grated ginger-1 tsp
Cardamom powder-1/2 tsp
Black pepper powder-1/4 tsp
Honey-1 tbsp
Cashews nuts-10(optional)
Raisins-10(optional)
Chopped Cherries-2 tbsp(optional)



METHOD:-

1-In a mixie add sattu(chhatua powder),fruits,yogurt,paneer,jaggery,coconut,honey,ginger,cardamom & pepper powder and mix well.
2-Then add a cup of chilled water,grapes,strawberry pieces,chopped cherry,cashew nuts and raisins to it and mix properly.
3-Pour into a glass and sprinkle some chopped fruits and Serve fresh.

Note-1-you can add any fruit of your choice.
2-If you want then add some crushed ice.
