CHAKULI PITHA

Chakuli Pitha is an Oriya flat,rice-based fried cake traditionally made in the state of Orissa.It is prepared using rice flour (arua chaula),black gram (biri dali),refined edible oil (refine tela) most favorable will be ghee or mustard oil, and salt (luna).It traces its origin during early 4th century BC when Buddha had tasted the Chakra apoopa from two merchants coming from Kalinga Kingdom to Magadha.



INGREDIENTS:-

Rice(Arua chaula)-2 cups
Black gram(biri dali)-1 cup
Fenugreek seeds-2 tsp
Vegetable oil/Cooking spray
salt to taste

METHOD:-

1-Soak rice,black gram and fenugreek seeds together in water for about 4 hours.
2-Grind the softened rice,black gram and fenugreek seeds to a fine paste.


3-Add salt and water to get a semi liquid batter and whip well.
4-Keep aside in a warm place to ferment well for at least 5-6 hours.


5-Heat a non-stick tawa on medium flame.Spread a little oil/cooking spray on the tawa.Lower the flame.
6-Take the batter in a big spoon and spread the same on the tawa as is done while preparing dosa or omelet.


7-Turn the pitha upside down.Then take the same out carefully.This way go on pithas one after another.
8-Serve hot with jaggery or peanut chutney or sambar or dalma.
(Grease the surface of tawa with oil once every two or three pithas.)
